About Brockenhurst
Brockenhurst has officially been declared Britain’s most beautiful place to live. With free-roaming ponies, deer, donkeys, and cows wandering around the village, it’s no surprise; the enchanting New Forest is literally at your doorstep. Nestled between Lymington and Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst is one of the New Forest’s most outstanding locations, perfect for picnics and leisurely walks. Retaining its old-world charm, it’s a favorite with tourists, offering a variety of shops, tearooms, pubs, and restaurants.
Set in a stunning forest environment, it’s hard to imagine that the village is well-connected, but it boasts a mainline railway station and easy road access to the M27 and M3, putting the coast and London within easy reach.
Places Of Interest in Brockenhurst
Village life is centred around the high street, Brookley Road. At the western end, you will find a large ford known as ‘The Splash’, where the free roaming New Forest ponies and donkeys often congregate. On the northern edge of Brockenhurst is the popular picnic spot Balmer Lawn, a favourite spot for locals and tourists on the banks of the Lymington River in the summer months. To the west of the village is Whitefield Moor, an ideal picnic spot and games area near the tranquil Ober Water stream.
You might venture into The Snakecatcher pub, so called after Brusher Mills a local Forester who made his living selling snakes from the New Forest to London Zoo. Or for something special, The Pig offers foodie festivals and kitchen-garden dining in a laid-back country house atmosphere. Pop past the local churchyard to see the 1000-year-old Yew tree, which many believe to be the oldest tree in the forest, and then take a stroll or a slow drive down Rhinefield Ornamental Drive. Pretty all year round it is still best seen in May and June when the road is lined with rhododendron and azalea flowers.
For those that enjoy exploring on two wheels, bike hire is available from Cyclexperience right outside the railway station, and many parts of the forest that are hidden to motorists are easily accessible from the village. Brockenhurst Manor Golf club was designed by the great course architect Harry Colt, and is a 6220 yard 18-hole course, available to play all year round.
If you’re looking for something a little less strenuous like a spectator sport, then spend the day watching polo at the New Forest Polo club, or take it even easier with a relaxing afternoon at the multi-award winning SenSpa at Carey’s Manor. If you can tear yourself away, the tiny village of Beaulieu and The National Motor Museum are but a short drive away.
